Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL)
is a modern, durable, and stylish surface material used in both commercial and residential design. TFL panels consist of two main components: a composite wood core and resin-impregnated décor paper, which are fused together using heat and pressure.
TFL evolved from what were commonly known as "melamine panels," a term still frequently used in many parts of North America and Europe. However, it's important to distinguish TFL from other materials referred to as "melamine" in the retail market. While these other materials contain some melamine resin, they are essentially lightweight papers glued to a substrate rather than being thermally fused. As a result, they are suitable for some residential shelving and light-duty furniture but lack the strength and durability required for heavy-use, high-traffic applications where TFL excels.
